Umzabalazo (means “The Struggle” in Zulu) is a documentary that explores different maid-employer relationships. It should be noted that the vast majority [999 out of every 1,000] of maids in the country are black. This film uses me, a South African-born journalist who was raised by maids, as a vehicle to explore how maids in the country are treated today and just how little has changed since apartheid was abolished in 1990.
