Abstract
This thesis explores a technical shift from studio to plein air observation and contextualizing urban landscapes through art history and memory. By investigating the tension between permanence and erasure amidst rapid gentrification, the work utilizes painting and photography to mirror the physicality of El Barrio in East Harlem.
