Abstract

The T20 Cricket World Cup '24 played in USA & WI will bring immense excitement to the cricket lovers around the world and have a question to themselves “Who shall I Root for?” How do people or fans support their favorite teams and on what criteria do they pick these teams will discuss in here.

Patriotism, tradition, and favorite individual players, are the main reasons for the fans to choose their and support the team. Nation is the biggest pride of an individual and many people choose their pride over everything. People celebrate when the home team plays on the world stage.

Some people like to support the big teams like India, Australia or England who have legacies and traditions revolving around them. Sir Viv Richards (a WI Legend) tweeted “If the maroons don’t make through, I will back the blues.” His tweet meant if West Indies doesn’t qualify then he will support India because of their pure dominance in the International stage. Similarly, people also want to see the rise of the underdog teams like Afghanistan and USA, and support them and wish they could play their best and get recognition world wide.

Individual players also play a significant role in supporting a team. People support their fav players because of player’s class and brilliance. Fan following also plays a big role for fans to cheer for a team. Hence, patriotism, rich history or powerhouse teams, undergods and individual brilliance, this abstracts tells the different aspects behind fans supporting various teams.
