Abstract

This assignment, AI-Enhanced Essay Prompt: Exploring Your Identity and Life Experiences, guides students through a reflective writing process that integrates personal narratives with academic concepts related to identity, globalization, and migration. Students will examine how their nationality, ethnicity, race, social class, and gender are shaped by larger cultural and transnational forces. The structured approach encourages students to engage with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly) as personalized writing tutors, assisting with brainstorming, organization, clarity, and revision while maintaining their authentic voice.

The essay requires students to build upon previously submitted personal anecdotes, analyze their experiences through course readings (including works by Juan Flores on diasporic communities), and synthesize these elements into a cohesive argument. The assignment is scaffolded into distinct stages: revisiting anecdotes, constructing an annotated bibliography, drafting the essay, and refining it through AI-assisted revision. By leveraging AI for feedback on structure, grammar, and clarity, students will develop stronger analytical and writing skills while deepening their understanding of identity in a globalized world.

This assignment underscores the ethical use of AI in writing, reinforcing that AI serves as a tool for enhancement rather than authorship. Students will submit a final essay that reflects their critical engagement with identity, migration, and globalization, demonstrating both personal insight and academic rigor.
