Abstract

On a practical level, this course will introduce you to the conventions of academic writing. You will learn how to compose an academic essay, using a variety of techniques such as pre-writing, outlining, drafting and revising/editing. The course will also enable you to write an annotated bibliography, compose a literacy narrative, conduct a critical analysis and develop a research-based argument. In addition, you will learn how to cite your sources and present ideas to a wider audience. Each of your assignments will be preceded by a detailed class discussion that will help you generate ideas.

However, since the course theme is climate crisis, you will familiarize yourself with the most important aspects of biodiversity, global warming, greenwashing, overpopulation, perception of climate change in society, carbon footprint of both individuals and industries, and the challenges of sustainable green economy on a global scale. We will cover not only current research on climate crisis but also documentaries, magazine articles, podcasts, TV reports and creative non-fiction. All the materials in this course will help you understand the greatest problem of the contemporary world and different ways to tackle it.
