Abstract

This assignment approaches digital platforms as texts to be read, analyzed, and revised using methods drawn from English studies, such as interpretation, argument, and revision. Students examine the language of user interfaces, compare on-screen promises with formal policy documents, and trace the relationships between design choices, language, and real-world outcomes. Through close reading, students practice core skills of literary and rhetorical analysis while engaging contemporary digital systems. In doing so, the assignment connects traditional writing practices to critical inquiry about power, authorship, and accountability in digital environments.
