Abstract
Times Square in the late 1970’s was a dangerous place, but seemed to be the only way out for a teenage girl after she was assaulted in her hometown. She finds a connection with a lonely immigrant construction worker, and their chance meeting sets both on a journey towards survival, self-discovery, and hope. Emeralds are known to be brittle and full of internal fractures. Their beauty is not in their sparkle, but the intensity of their hue. The characters in this play are imperfect, and there is no easy way to heal. Finding a small, safe space in an unpredictable world, even for a moment, can make all the difference.
