Abstract
In my thesis I argue that censorship of women's spirits and their sexual pleasures are parallel processes and have a surprising result, often provocation rather than suppressing. I make this argument in three parts, first via a co- written reflection with a female client currently incarcerated. Second, via a review of relevant literature. Third, via auto-ethnographic reflections of my own lived experience as a woman in an insular, Hassidic community. I use queering as a theoretical framework for my discussion, and I engage with Karen Barad’s idea of intra-action and agential realism as part of my methods and epistemological commitments.
