Abstract

Air filling something that is then sent away, into the air or, perhaps, beyond. Starting with Chardin's "Air Bubbles" I take up some of Joseph Cornell's Bubble sets, and then Marcel Duchlamp's Air de Paris, ending with the present, in these pandemic times, Air de New York.

Comments

This was written for a new journal, VENTI, and has not yet been accepted, but I am delighted to write on Joseph Cornell, about whom I did a whole book now very much out of print: Joseph Cornell: Theatre of the Mind (source files, letters, etc.) for Thames and Hudson.
