Abstract
Since 2023, a number of Black -led TV shows have been canceled or announcing their last season. This includes shows like Southside, Black Lady Sketch Show, Rapshit, and more. This a huge departure from the “racial reckoning” movement of 2020 with a lot of Black-led shows being greenlit for production and even a little further back to 2016 when Insecure hit the airwaves and ushered in an even larger influx of Black TV. From Queen Sugar to Empire and even Blackish there seemed to have been what some have called a “golden age” of Black TV likened to the 90s. However within the last year, many black audiences feel there has been an intentional backpedaling on this progress but historically things are cyclical so what has happened historically and what does that tell us about where we're going?
