Abstract
This capstone is comprised of three different stories for “AudioFiles”, a bi-weekly radio and podcast news show that covers current events in and around New York City. The portfolio covers three different types of pieces: a narrated feature, a nonnarrative feature, and a quick-turn daybook story. The narrated feature looks at the growing popularity in gambling apps and their link to gambling addiction. The second piece is a nonnarrated feature profiling a modern gladiator and his experience fighting in the Armored League. The final piece looks at City Council legislation that provides a bonus to the city’s paraprofessional teaching assistants. All the stories here chronicle New Yorkers fighting for something different. For some, it’s working to combat the rising tide of gambling addiction; for others, it’s dueling for honor in modern day gladiator duels. And for a group of teaching assistants at City Hall, it’s fighting for a pay raise they believe is dearly overdue.
