Abstract

East Village residents discover friendships and their ability to persevere as they compete to win a tree guard for taking care of the trees in their neighborhood which have been hit by climate change effects. The contestants all spend hours picking up each piece of litter one by one around their blocks’ tree beds. They plant pollinator plants in the rain at night. They push wheelbarrows of mulch through city streets so they can lay mulch down on the tree beds. All contestants celebrate their placement in the competition after finding out about their placement.
