New York City College of Technology was founded in 1946 as the New York State Institution of Applied Arts and Sciences. The College has experience numerous name changes and is now most commonly known by its nickname City Tech. Although the school began in 1946, City Tech has roots dating back to the late 19th century because of its merger with the Vorhees Technical Institute in the early 1970s. City Tech joined the CUNY system in 1964 and became a senior college in 1980. Currently the school awards both bachelors and associates degrees. This collection traces City Technulls history through its presidents, although not all presidents are currently represented. Since its founding, the New York City College of Technology has had eight presidents and four acting presidents leading the institution.
