Abstract
This presentation outlines the vision of the new University Director of Collections and Metadata Strategy, Lauren E. Lancourt, for the future of CUNY Libraries: a system where collections are managed as a shared university-wide resource rather than as isolated campus holdings. Through greater collaboration, strategic investment, shared stewardship, and data-informed decision making, CUNY can expand access to scholarly resources, maximize limited budgets, and better support teaching, learning, and research across its campuses. The presentation explores opportunities to strengthen collective collection development, resource sharing, open scholarship, and long-term sustainability while ensuring equitable access for all members of the CUNY community. This vision positions library collections as essential infrastructure for academic success and a foundation for collaboration across the university.
