Abstract
The survey of Russian culture and civilization through the lenses of literature, art, folklore, music, history, politics, philosophy, and key aspects of everyday life. Russian history has resulted in a culture that is both familiar and alien to Western observers. Russia’s writers, intellectuals, artists, and scientists have been long and widely appreciated for their contribution to understanding the human condition. The reading, translation, adaptation, and response to their work has shaped a good deal of the cultural and intellectual heritage we have inherited.
