Abstract

Two Long Island institutions, Planting Fields Foundation and Innocenti & Webel Landscape Architects, recently reevaluated the scope, reach, and needs of their respective collections. Innocenti & Webel decided to downsize for an office move, while Planting Fields began a long-term project to grow its archival holdings outside of the history of the estate itself and the family that lived there in the 1920s. In a dramatic rescue, Planting Fields took control of I&W’s historical materials, transitioning the collection’s occasional business use to one of inquiry, full of academic potential and expanding the institution's collecting scope.
