Abstract

Hybrid asynchronous survey of Ottoman history from the empire’s emergence through its collapse, examining major political, social, economic, and legal transformations across six centuries. Through primary sources, historical scholarship, and audiovisual materials, the course considers themes including imperial expansion and governance, religious communities, migration, economic change, reform, European imperialism, and the transition from empire in a broader global and comparative context.
