Abstract
Amazon is advancing its goal for carbon-free energy by investing in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) through partnerships with X-energy, Energy Northwest, and Dominion Energy. These compact nuclear reactors will provide clean energy to power Amazon’s data centers and other operations, with expected benefits for energy resilience and community jobs. The SMR projects will add substantial power capacity to regions like the Pacific Northwest and Virginia, supporting Amazon’s target of net-zero carbon operations by 2040. The current project looks into the adverse effects these agreement may have on the environment, and how big tech companies' historical environmental interactions may come into play.
