Antes de ser reconocido en el mundo de la cumbia sonidera en Nueva York, Alejandro Avilés, sonido “Kumbala”, no esperaba ser un sonidero cumbiambero. Su sueño era tener un sonidero de música disco tech como “Polimarch”. En el 92, cuando migró a Estados Unidos, no se escuchaba ese mundo, pero se escuchaba mucho la cumbia, esa eterna peregrina de latinoamérica. Trabajó años para ser sonidero y comprar su equipo. Después de 4 años, lo logró. En el 96, tuvo la infraestructura para ser sonidero e inició su camino en el mundo de la música. Eligió “Kumbala” y no “Centella” porque la “K” resuena con la “A” y permite ese sampler “¡KUKUKUMBALA!”. En la actualidad, Alejandro tiene 29 años de ser sonidero en Nueva York, y al igual que en la canción de “La Maldita Vecindad”, en esa escena nocturna, “todo es música y pasión”.

Before being recognized in the world of cumbia sonidera in New York, Alejandro Avilés, “Kumbala”, never expected to become a sonidero. His dream was to have a disco-tech sound system like “Polimarch.” In 1992, when he migrated to the United States, that scene didn’t really exist, but cumbia was everywhere—that eternal pilgrim of Latin America. He worked for years to become a sonidero and to buy his sound equipment. After four years, he made it. In 1996, he had the infrastructure to be a sonidero and began his path in the world of music. He chose “Kumbala” instead of “Centella” because the “K” resonates with the “A” and allows for that sampler: “¡KUKUKUMBALA!” Today, Alejandro has spent 29 years as a sonidero in New York, and just like in the song by La Maldita Vecindad, in that nighttime scene, “everything is music and passion.”
