Abstract

“Lorathia” is an invented term by poet Kasey Dugan. It describes how the human heart explodes upon looking at an angel. But “lorathia” isn’t limited to the fantastical; it describes all instant deaths in the face of unbearable beauty. This thesis considers wide-ranging loss: missing dogs, alcoholic fathers, and troubled childhoods.
