Abstract
Notes on Steel thwarts conventions of steel use in public space and draws attention to the hermetic aspirations of steel design, including the layered relationship it has with space outside its architecture, and the notion of control, authority, and property inherent in the materiality's use.The paper draws attention to the late 1960s, which saw steel corporations exploring new ways to use art for commercial gain and influence.
