Abstract

This paper places a space of ideas in conversation with a tactile reality. I propose archetypes of modernism as formal outlines and points of familiarity to a general audience. My work seeks to refigure these common formats in painting and sculpture by subjecting them to an unpredictable process of tactile manipulation. Questions of legibility are raised by asking how repeat encounters with forms of visual language shape expectations and understanding.
