Abstract
Mariel Rolwing Montes’ paintings are viewed as though through a portal. Photography and collected objects are negotiated on the canvas through a collage logic, allowing for distortion through memory. In The Spirit of Things Sometimes or Shrew Gazing, Rolwing Montes contextualizes her work around references related to history, imagination, and mysticism.
