Abstract

Lonely Rooms is an interdisciplinary installation project using etching (printmaking), video, and projection mapping. The piece consists of two panels that form two building facades. On the larger panel sized 44 inches by 30 inches, 126 etchings—each sized 2 by 2 inches—are aligned like windows on residential buildings. The smaller panel sized 30 by 30 inches contains 50 empty squares, also 2 by 2 inches, onto which 100 videos will be projected from the back at various times.

The project explores themes of loneliness and solitude. It features both improvised and everyday movements—videos of daily life re-enacted with varying speeds and intentions. Each square or projection creates a restrictive frame for the subject, limiting what the audience can see. Yet at the same time, the squares are interconnected and respond to one another.
