Abstract
New York State's healthcare billing system (SPARCS) data shows that over 70% of the hospital costs for medical treatment of gun injuries are principally paid for by taxpayers. The databit by John Jay College of Criminal Justice's Research and Evaluation Center indicates the number of dollars of New York City inpatient, emergency, and ambulatory claims between 2010 and 2020 that were paid for privately through health insurance versus public sources such as Medicaid and Medicare.
