Abstract
This report examines the implementation and effects of the Crisis Management System (CMS) in New York City, a strategy designed to combat gun violence in high-risk neighborhoods. Recommended by the City Council’s Task Force to Combat Gun Violence in 2011, CMS combines elements of the Cure Violence model with social and legal services. The Research and Evaluation Center at John Jay College assessed these efforts through the NYC-Cure study, which surveys young men (ages 18-30) on their attitudes toward violence, personal experiences, and awareness of local prevention programs. The report presents findings from the first four neighborhoods involved, with additional surveys planned over a three-year period using Respondent-Driven Sampling (RDS) methods to track changes.
