Abstract
Two years ago, in December 1972, the American Association of University Professors Committee W Report on the State of Women on the Faculty of Skidmore College concluded that the college appeared to be discriminating against women in its hiring practice. Studies of the faculty during the preceding five years showed that in a time of faculty expansion there had been an overall decrease in the teaching faculty by one woman and an increase by twenty-one men. In the words of the Report, it was "not a very equitable development in an already poor balance" of 86 men to 58 women on the faculty as a whole in the year 1968-69 and 107 men to 57 women on the faculty as a whole in 1972-73.
