Abstract

I Think of Your Mother is a short observational film that documents Valentine’s Day weekend at a 131-year old, family-owned-and-operated flower shop in East Elmhurst, Queens. The once thriving business of providing flowers for funerals at the nearby St. Michael’s Cemetery has diminished, but seven days a week the 92-year old owner, Gladys, still answers the phone and takes orders while her family tries to accommodate her way of doing things. As they struggle to keep the store relevant, the film captures a family business that has persevered, if not necessarily triumphed, over the profound changes taking place in the city and society.
